National Management Competition 2005
The National Management Competition (NMC) is a computer-simulated business management challenge. In a test of participants’ managerial and entrepreneurial skills, teams of two to four members will ‘register’ a company and manage it to make maximum profits. This can only be achieved through careful planning, critical analysis and skilful decision making by the management of the company – that’s you!
In each round, you will need to make decisions on marketing, finance and production and sell your products in different markets. Like markets in the real business world, the development of the virtual markets is dynamic and depends on different factors including the decisions made by other competitors playing in the same field. Better your performance with each round and you may clinch the top prize!
Each company will ‘manufacture’ two products and sell them in a number of ‘markets’. In each of four financial years, your company has to decide on the production quantity of each product and its selling price. Decisions must also be made on marketing and finance (including cash allocation and research and development). The development of the ‘markets’ will depend on the actual decisions made by other competitors playing in the ‘market’. To help you make subsequent decisions, you will receive reports of how your company has fared at the end of each financial year. The competition is played on a knock-out basis over three rounds. The Qualifying Round and Semi-Finals will be played over two weeks via the Internet with decisions submitted online. The Finals will be played ‘live’ at SIM via the Internet.
